notes : a locational sound piece for tape involving a reading of two texts written in the same year, 1897 : stephane mallarme's poem 'un coup de des' ('one toss of the dice never will abolish chance'), and the Kapiti Island Public Reserve Act, texts recorded onto a and b sides. cassette was then taken to the sea at rangatira and audio of reading overwritten with site recording, just on sundown, 27.5.2012. tape palimpsest immediately buried at the same spot on the shoreline. location finders : vertical marker of whalebone, GPS co-ordinates. tape successfully retrieved from site on the 1st June 2012.

WHEREAS the Island of Kapiti, situated in the Land District of Wellington, containing four thousand nine hundred and ninety acres, more or less, is owned principally by Natives who are not in beneficial use or occupation of the same: And whereas, for the purposes of conserving the natural scenery of the said island, and providing a preserve for the fauna and flora of New Zealand, it is desirable that the said island be acquired by Her Magesty as a public reserve, and that pending such acquisition all dealings therewith by private persons should be prohibited..."
