notes : the full and part time residents at Waiorua bay have connected their isolation to the mainland in a variety of ways over the decades, from a system of mirror signals on the beach, to cellphone networks, but the 20th century's keen reliance on the intimate aural domestica of radio transmission seems to be persevering healthily into the 21st. walking into the kitchen one could often find the chef, Lindsey, working to a backing soundtrack of National radio. one particular, slightly chilly morning I even caught him whistling along to the Victor Dimisch Band. now, if it'd been a tui whistling along to this song, that would really have been something. but Lindsey's tuneful efforts will have to do.
